CAIR to Present 'Defender of Liberty' Award to Jewish Voice for Peace, Center for Constitutional Rights at Annual Banquet
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 12/12/16) The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today announced that it will present the first-ever "Defender of Liberty" award to Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) at the Washington-based Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization's 22nd annual banquet December 17 in Arlington, Va.
CAIR designed the new award to be given to organizations that have had "a powerful and positive impact in defense of civil rights and religious freedom." Representatives of JVP and CCR will receive the awards at CAIR's banquet on Saturday.
With the theme "Uniting America: Building Bridges, Not Walls," the evening banquet will also feature Gold Star father and constitutional activist Khizr Khan and his wife Ghazala Khan, Linda Sarsour, executive director of the Arab American Association of New York, and Dalia Mogahed, director of research at the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding in Washington, D.C.
Banquet attendees will be entertained by comedian Preacher Moss and will meet the recipients of CAIR's Community Service Awards.
