A new local communities and indigenous peoples platform becomes operational at COP 23
COP 23 agreed on the functions and purpose of the platform as well as initial steps to continue to work towards the full operationalization of the platform, including a multi-stakeholder workshop on implementing the functions.
An open global forum discusses adaptation and resilience of human settlements at COP 23
At the NWP 11th Focal Point Forum, 95 participants gathered to learn about the challenges and opportunities for adaptation in human settlements, and interact with international experts on vulnerability assessments, long-term planning, the role of national governments and city-to-city partnerships.
New Video: the ins and outs of the adaptation knowledge portal
Check out a brand new video on the adaptation knowledge portal. It demonstrates what the knowledge portal is, and more importantly shows how you can directly participate in the UNFCCC process by becoming part of the NWP, knowledge-for-action network for climate resilience.

Climate action under the NWP

SBSTA 47 welcomed the progress made under the NWP
The 47th session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 47) welcomed the progress made under the NWP; encouraged the replication of the NWP 11th Focal Point Forum on human settlements and adaptation; and expressed support for enhanced communication for the second phase of the Lima Adaptation Knowledge Initiative.
Closing knowledge gaps to scale up adaptation: the Lima Adaptation Knowledge Initiative (LAKI)
During COP 23, the UNFCCC secretariat and UN Environment engaged experts and practitioners to reflect on the outcomes of the first phase of the LAKI, and discuss the implementation of second phase of the knowledge initiative in enabling adaptation action in subregions and areas of vulnerabilities.
Repackaging Research for Use in the Hindu Kush Himalaya
Experts and practitioners convened at the latest LAKI satellite event to discuss collaborative approaches to close knowledge gaps identified during the LAKI priority-setting workshop in the Hindu Kush Himalayan subregion. Proposed actions include enhancing access to locally usable knowledge and adaptation technologies for agricultural practices and water resource management.
An innovative dialogue to curate knowledge on human settlements and adaptation
The technical dialogue with experts was co-organized with NWP partner organizations prior to COP 23 to complement the NWP 11th Focal Point Forum and resulted in enhanced experts' engagement, information-sharing, and collaboration among the NWP partners, Parties and other relevant organizations.
Working together: Enhance climate change adaptation actions through active partnership
Students from a NWP partner, the University of Michigan, provided valuable support to various events organized by the Adaptation Programme of the UNFCCC secretariat during COP 23, and in doing so improved their understanding of the UNFCCC negotiation process.
Your input matters: respond to the call for submission under the NWP

By 30 March, 2018: send us your view on how to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of the NWP. Your input will help inform the Parties' review of the NWP at SBSTA 48 (April - May 2018).
Engagement Opportunities

Help drive the Lima Adaptation Knowledge Initiative (LAKI) forward
Are you aware of knowledge challenges that hinder climate change adaptation actions? Would you like to help bridge such knowledge gaps? The LAKI is designed to identify and prioritize knowledge gaps, and catalyze actions to help close those knowledge gaps so that communities and ecosystems can better adapt to climate change in subregions and areas of vulnerabilities.
                                                                                                                                                LEARN MORE >>>
The Fiji Clearing House for Risk Transfer Launched
The Fiji Clearing House for Risk Transfer was launched at COP 23. Developed under the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage, it connects seekers of risk transfer solutions around the world with experts who can help to explore practical risk transfer solutions such as insurance. Through its RISK TALK you can also ask questions and get tailor-made answers from experts.
The 2018 technical examination process on adaptation
Outlook to the 2018 technical examination process on adaptation: A technical expert meeting on adaptation will be conducted during the 48th sessions of the subsidiary bodies in April/May 2018.
